The Bijou neighborhoods are among the most centrally located for South Lake Tahoe living. They are divided into two separate areas: Bijou 1 and Bijou 2. Bijou 1 stretches from Highway 50 near Lakeview Commons beach to Pioneer Trail between Wildwood Blvd and Bijou Meadows near Glenwood Way. Bijou 2 is a historic neighborhood that rests between Johnson Blvd, Al Tahoe Blvd, and Lake Tahoe Blvd. Both are in the center of town walking or biking distance to most everything. The Bijou area is great if you desire to own Lake Tahoe real estate in the heart of South Lake Tahoe.
Approximately 1200 properties compose the Bijou area. Properties in the Bijou area can range from new construction million plus dollar homes backing to the meadow, to modest 1950’s 700 square foot cabins. The Bijou area also contains many multifamily properties from duplexes to condos to apartment buildings.
The Bijou area is fairly level as far as Lake Tahoe topography. Bijou does not receive a great deal of snow compared to other Lake Tahoe California neighborhoods like Christmas Valley or Country Club Estates. This makes for less snow removal and more time for snowmobiling, skiing, and snowboarding.
Bijou is close to the Eldorado Beach stand up paddle board races and summer concert series. The California Base lodge near Bijou is the quickest and easiest way to access Heavenly during the winter. Some of the other attractions that make Bijou’s central location so desirable are shopping, dining, nightlife, Lake Tahoe Community College, Trout Creek, Cold Creek, Truckee River, Reagan Beach, Eldorado Beach, Secret Beach, Mt. bike trails, Bijou Community Park; which holds a world class 27 hole Frisbee golf course, a bmx and skate park, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a fitness trail, a dog park, and a picnic pavilion. Bijou golf course is another popular public destination in the neighborhood. The course features top notch views of Heavenly as well as Freel Peak. From the Bijou area the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center is a short walk. The center features an indoor ice skating rink, indoor swimming pool, weight room, basketball court, ping pong table, and plenty of other activities to keep you active and healthy. Tall pines, meadow views, and mt. views are some of the pleasures that the Bijou neighborhoods provide.
